We all know that interviews can be nerve-racking. Practising beforehand can help you ace the interview. Here are our top tips!

Know the job

Analysing the job description will give you an idea of exactly what the company is looking for, from qualities to qualifications. It is vital that you are able to show an understanding of the job role and show the employer why you are the one for the job. Find out everything there is to know about the company and the job role and be ready to talk about the company that will impress your employer and help you stand out.

Practise interview questions

Practising answers to common interview questions allows you to be more prepared. You also need to be different and stand out from the rest. By preparing answers beforehand, you are able to take your time and come up with a high-quality answer, integrating any important information such as achievements and experience. With preparation comes confidence, so you will be able to answer the questions with more confidence during the interview.

For Example:

  • How would you describe yourself?
  • Why should we hire you?
  • Why do you want to work here?

Be ready to sell yourself

Identify your selling points. Spend some time thinking about your best qualities, accomplishments, experience, and qualifications. Tell them all about yourself while also linking it to the job role. The employer needs to know why they should choose you.

Ask them questions

Prepare some questions beforehand that you would like to ask the interviewer. Asking more in-depth questions about the company or the job role shows the employer that you have a real interest in the position, which makes a great first impression.

For  example:

  • What is your favourite thing about your job?
  • What does a typical day look like?
  • What type of skills is the team missing that you’re looking to fill with a new hire?

On the day

On the day of the interview, you can feel quite nervous, which is completely normal. To help with the nerves, give yourself lots of time to get there and arrive 5-10 minutes before your scheduled time. This not only shows your time efficiency but also allows you to sit down and go over any notes beforehand.

Lastly, almost forget it is an interview and treat it like a conversation. This will reduce the nerves and allow conversation to flow more naturally.
